Major League Soccer
From 2016-2018 I covered the Chicago Fire for a few websites, most notably the MLS league website, mlssoccer.com.
The first story I was asked to do for MLS, after about half a season of coverage for another site, was about how newly-signed German superstar Bastian Schweinsteiger was settling into life off the field in Chicago. I was told I only had as much interview time as it took him to walk from the training pitch back to the locker room. It was nerve wracking and when we parted ways after that short walk I wasn’t sure if I had enough, but the story came out well enough and launched a sustained relationship with the MLS editorial team.
From there, my coverage spanned day-to-day beat news gathered at training sessions, match reports, features, and whatever else the league editorial directors asked me to chase down. As part of the wider MLS editorial team, I was also lucky enough to contribute to coverage of the MLS All-Star Game when it was held in Chicago in 2017.
Unfortunately, a website redesign seems to have killed my old author page where all of my writing could be found in one place, but some examples of the kind of pieces I did are liked below. If you’d like to read more, just ask and I’m happy to dig up full clips or more pieces for you.
